The Dawes Arboretum has officially begun its 2025-2026 Girl Scout season! With fan favorites like maple syrup tasting and new opportunities on the horizon jewelry making, this season is sure to be even better than the last.
The Arboretum has been working with Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland consistently for over 18 years, and it’s all due to the passion of Beth Spieles, Dawes’ Learning and Education Educator and Interpretive Coordinator. When she began working at Dawes almost twenty years ago, she was inspired by her daughter participating in Girl Scouts to consider how the mission of the two organizations overlapped. With a shared passion for nature and education of youth, she knew that Girl Scouts programming could have a home at The Arboretum.
Girl Scouts is a movement dedicated to building courage, confidence and character to make the world a better place. Girl Scouts get access to fun activities, memorable experiences, prestigious awards, lifelong sisterhood and travel opportunities – just like field trips at Dawes.
Since then, Dawes has acted as a lively source for Girl Scout’s field trips, providing fun and exciting opportunities to learn about the environment, a unique way for Girl Scouts to earn skill badges, and a way to immerse community members in nature and familiarize them with all that The Arboretum has to offer.
These programs expose Girl Scouts and their families to the Licking County Community and new outdoor experiences with their peers. It’s also a fun way to earn accomplishments that they can stitch to their vests and keep in their hearts for years to come.
