Seventy years ago this month, Newark’s famous “drummer boy,” John L. Clem, dedicated a tree at The Arboretum.   To celebrate this anniversary, Civil War historian and author, Dennis M. Keesee, will present an illustrated lecture on his book “Too Young to Die: Boy Soldiers of the Union Army 1861-1865.”  The author will have copies of his book for sale.</description>

Forage the woods, fence rows and fields in search of tasty edibles. The focus will be on wild, edible, native fruits (persimmon, pawpaw, crabapple) and nuts (hickory, walnut, acorn).  The C–TEC Culinary Arts Program will assist this class.  &lt;br /&gt;

Come join several members of the Ohio Mushroom Society and take a leisurely walk through wooded areas of Dawes Arboretum looking for fleshy fungi.  Participants will collect specimen finds and return to a collection point to share and discuss collections.  Estimated time, two hours.  Wear walking shoes or boots and bring rain gear if the weather looks threatening.  Make sure to bring a small basket or paper sack for carrying your collections.   </description>
